Fernside is a small animal veterinary clinic located in the heart of Borehamwood. We care for animals in Borehamwood and the surrounding areas. 
Established since 1996 by Robyn Farquhar we are committed to offering you and your pet a personal service. We aim to build lasting relationships with our clients by providing professional care in a friendly, relaxed atmosphere. 
From your new pets first steps to their senior years, we provide a range of services from routine appointments to emergency care. 


Qualified Veterinary Surgeons 
All of our veterinary surgeons are qualified and registered under the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS). They continue to update there skills and knowledge by undergoing an extensive range of practical courses and webinars. 
Robyn Farquhar 
MRCVS, MACVS, BVSc DipVetClinStud, Cert(GP)SAM, PgCertEMS 
Robyn trained at Massey University in New Zealand in 1984. She started Fernside in 1996 after taking on the Medburn branch practice owned by Vivien Sheriden. She has a special interest in emergency care and epilepsy. Robyn owns a lovely lurcher called Norman who was rescued by the local dog wardens. She liked to breed dressage horses and enjoys riding the quietest ones she has bred! 
Fiona Grieve 
Fiona is one of our senior vets. She qualified in 1992 and has been here with us at Fernside since 2003. Fiona is an Official Veterinarian (OV) which means that she can issue pet passports and export certificates. She is also one of our clinical coaches meaning she is responsible for the training of our student nurses. At home Fiona has two rescued cats called Doris and Wilf. 
Kayleigh Mitchell 
Kayleigh qualified at the Royal Veterinary College in 2009 and joined the Fernside team in 2014. She is an Official Veterinarian (OV) which means that she can issue pet passports and export certificates. Kayleigh completed her Post Graduate certificate in small animal medicine in 2014 and is responsible for our house visit service. At home Kayleigh has a black cat called Binx who was found dumped in a box in a graveyard. 
Erica Thompson 
DrMedVet Cert AVP MRCVS 
Erica qualified in Hungary at the University of Medicine in Budapest in 2009. This is one of the oldest veterinary schools in the world. She joined us in July 2017 and has since expanded our complimentary services here at Fernside to include electro-accupuncture, laser and physiotherapy. At home Erica has a black Labrador called Diesal and a cat called Sophie. 
Jill Maddison 
BVsc DipVetClinStud Phd FACVsc SFHEA MRCVS 
Jill graduated from the University of Sydney in 1979. She is a professor of general practice and as well as working here at Fernside, she also works at the Royal Veterinary College on their continual professional development program. Jill owns two rescue cats called Dudley and Doris. 
Stephanie Harris 
Stephanie is our newest veterinary surgeon joining the Fernside team in July 2019. She is originally from Florida and studied at Cornell University before qualifying in 2017. She moved to the UK in June 2019 and is excited to explore what London has to offer! 
Qualified Veterinary Nurses 
All of our nurses are qualified and registered under the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons. They have undergone extensive training and continue to update their knowledge by completing continued professional development (cpd) hours.  
Karen Toull 
DipVN RVN, Head Nurse, Clinical Coach 
Karen qualified from the Royal Veterinary College and College of Animal Welfare in 2013. She has been at Fernside since 2009 and is our head nurse responsible for the day to day running of the practice together with Robyn. She has been a clinical coach since 2015 and is also responsible for the training of Fernside student nurses. She has a rescue whippet called Harry who often comes into Fernside as well as two horses. 
Isabelle Andelius 
Bsc(Hons) RVN 
Isabelle qualified from Middlesex University in 2017 after joining us here at Fernside in 2015. She is Deputy head nurse and is responsible for the out of hours care of our inpatients. Isabelle has two kittens who were rescued from Fernside called Benji and Boris. 
Emily Daniells 
Fdsc RVN 
Emily joined Fernside in 2015 as a placement student and has since qualified from the Royal Veterinary College in 2019. Emily has a keen interest in Emergency and Critial Care and is now looking forward to expanding her knowledge as a qualified veterinary nurse. Emily owns a collie called Bella and a Labrador x lurcher called Poppy. 
Support Staff 
Fernside support staff help with assisting all staff and go through ongoing internal training. 
Jasmine Dancy 
Jasmine joined us in 2019 as support staff helping the rest of the team with the day to day running of the practice. She is currently at college studying finance and accounting and lives with her standard poodle called Merlin. 
All of our receptionists here at Fernside receive ongoing training to help make your experience a pleasant one. 
Jane Ratcliffe 
Jane has been at Fernside since 2000 and is our Head Receptionist responsible for the day to day running of the reception team. She lives locally and has three different coloured Labradors called Stan The Man, Nelly Noodles and Winifred. 
Amanda Conrad 
Amanda joined us as part of the Fernside team in 2018 and settled in very quickly as she had lots of previous experience in customer service. Since joining Fernside she couldn’t resist taking on a stray kitten in the practice called Willow. 
Nina Dela-Warr  
Nina joined Fernside in 2015 and has since been a valuable member of the reception team. 
She has three dogs called Alfie, Yogi and Tinkabell. 
Chloe Boyce  
Chloe is our newest team member - joining us in December 2019. She has previous experience in customer service and owns a cavalier king charles spaniel called Albert. 

Out of Hours 

During our opening hours we treat emergencies here at Fernside. Out of hours, the practice is registered so clients can use the emergency service at the Royal Veterinary College in South Mimms. In the event of a emergecy please call the 'Out of Hours Service' direct on 01707 666399 and the Emergency Care team will take details and advise you on the appropriate action.
