Our Staff 

Qualified Vets 

Robyn Farquhar MRCVS MACVS 
Robyn qualified in New Zealand in 1984, and worked in Britain for several years before buying the practice in 1996. She has a passion for horses. She bred three foals in 2011 and a further two this year. Robyn has a dog called Norman who was brought in by the local council with a fractured leg, he has a passion for life and is great fun. Robyn has completed both her general practice advance certificate and emergency and critical care certificate having previously completed a GP certificate she is looking to complete her Masters. 
Fiona Grieve MRCVS 
Fiona qualified in Glasgow in 1992 and has worked in the West Midlands, Essex and elsewhere in Hertfordshire. She has been with Fernside for 14 years and enjoys it because it is a friendly practice with firm local connections. She has two rescue cats, Doris and Wilf. Fiona is one of our clinical coaches and is responsible for the training of our students nurses with Karen. 
Erica Thompson MRCVS 
Erica has a passion for our older patients; having an interest in acupuncture and laser treatments. Erica joined us in July 2017 and is one of our valued Part time veterinary surgeons. Erica has a labrador called Diesel and has settled in well as part of the team. 
Jill Maddison MRCVS 
Jill has now been working for us for over 9 years. We are very lucky to have Jill as part of our Vet team being a very respected Veterinary Surgeon; having written books and lecturing in pharmacology. Jill also runs the CPD department for the Royal Veterinary College which includes lecturing to hundreds of veterinary students. 
Kayleigh Mitchell MRCVS 
Kayleigh has been part of our team for 4 years. Kayleigh has been qualified just over 8 years and enjoys emergency and critical care and has a passion for looking after the dental health care of the Fernside patients and has recently enjoyed attending a 2 day Dental Course . Kayleigh has a medicine certificate. 
Kayleigh is responsible for our vet house visits on Tuesday's; please enquire with the reception team should you want more information on our Tuesday house visit service. 


Qualified Registered Veterinary Nurses 

Karen Toull RVN  
Karen lives locally and joined the practice as a student. She has a dog called Harry brought into us as a puppy for rehoming, three cats and and two horses. Karen will be taking the lead on our new senior pet clinic and will be working closely alongside Erica to provide our acupuncture and laser treatments. Karen has a passion for all areas of nursing but in particular loves nurse clinics, inpatient care and animal behaviour. 
Isabelle Andelius BSc (Hons) RVN 
Isabelle has been with us for 3 years now, having started as a placement student we were so impressed with her passion and patient care we asked her to stay. Isabelle qualified in July 2017 and enjoys nursing our hospitalized and daily surgical patients. She has a lovely ginger kitten called Benji which she adopted as a stray from the practice last year. Isabelle has recently started running some of our nurse clinics, alongside Karen, so we can now offer more varied appointment times. 

Diploma Students Nurses 

Keeley Power SVN 
Keeley is one of our student nurses and is training at The College of Animal Welfare , having completed her veterinary care assistants course, she is now on the full registered diploma course. 
Keeley enjoys being part of the nursing team and is progressing well with her course, she is often seen helping with the nurse clinics and assisting the qualified nurses especially during inpatient and post operative care. Keeley's cheeky cat Albert is a daily visitor to the practice and loves his time at the surgery. 

Veterinary Care Assistants 

Charlie Smith VCA / Accounts Manager 
Charlie has been with us for the last 18 months. Charlie is a qualified Veterinary Care Assistant, this is an important supportive role within the practice. Veterinary care assistants have to go through a certificate course on all aspects of veterinary practice so this becomes incredibly handy for both animal handling, laboratory support and inpatient care. Charlie is also responsible for looking after client accounts. Charlie has a cat called Princess and two dogs called Bobby and Freddie. 

Placement Nurses 

Emily Daniells SVN 
Emily joined the Fernside team as a work experience student in 2014. She is currently completing her degree as a veterinary nurse student at the Royal Veterinary College and will be qualifying in July 2019. She has two dogs at home called Bella and Poppy; as well as two cats - Petal and Bonnie.  

Reception Staff 

Helen Zatz 
Helen joined us in 2014 as the third member of the receptionist team. Helen has 3 children and lives locally. Her daughter is very pleased that she is joining the team as has a very special interest in all our furry friends and has aspirations to be a veterinary nurse; she is currently helping us on a Saturday learning her away around the practice. Helen has just taken on a cat that was brought into the surgery as a stray - we knew she couldn't resist for long... 
Nina Dela Warr 
Nina works as a part time receptionist here at Fernside and has been with us since 2016. She has three dogs who regularly join Nina and her family on UK holidays. Nina is currently on maternity leave after welcoming baby Bobby in April 2018. We look foward to her return early next year.
